A wife. A daughter. A sister. An aunt. An athlete. On January 19 the world lost Sarah Burke to an injury from a freak accident practicing the sport she loved – freeskiing.
Struck by the unexpected loss of a wonderfully talented woman loved by many, Canadians and others around the world rallied unsolicited to raise the funds required to pay her medical expenses. To date not only have those expenses been covered, but people’s generosity has ensured there are funds to “establish a foundation to honor Sarah's legacy and promote the ideals she valued and embodied.”
Hers is a story of courage, tenacity, determination and hard work. She has left a legacy for many young women who will follow in her footsteps, benefitting from the trail she blazed.
And generous donors have also left a legacy, demonstrating the power of the collective. Demonstrating the beauty of rallying together in a time of need…in establishing something positive, out of tragedy.
If you would like to add to the power of this collective, please do so before March 18. Visit http://www.giveforward.com/sarahburke.
