True Friendship

Over the years, I’ve been blessed with many friendships found at different junctions in life – childhood, adolescence, adulthood, at school, in my neighbourhood, through other friends…


For a long time I thought that someone I met in adulthood could never become as close as someone I’d known for years. I was wrong. For a long time I believed that because I had known someone for years, that we had an inseparable bond. I was also wrong.


Experience has showed me that true friendship is not a function of time but factors much more complex.  No kidding, eh? 
A recent conversation with a long time friend got me reflecting on what true friendship is to me.


Friendship is work. Your friends may disappoint you but working through these moments with open, honest communication is key.


Friendship is a two way street. This ties to the previous point. If one person consistently makes more effort in the relationship, it is fair to evaluate the solidity of this ‘bond’.
